On Monday October 17th, 2022, the ARUA Centre of Excellence for Non-communicable diseases team held a meeting together with the steering committee members at Radisson Blu Hotel and Residence, Nairobi Arboretum. The meeting was called to address plans put in place for the official launch of the Centre, scheduled for 6th December 2022. The meeting also addressed the plans in place for the regional NCD conference to take place between 6th and 9th December 2022.
This meeting was attended by Dr Fred Bukachi, the Centre director, Dr Anne Kamau, Centre deputy director, Ms. Paschalin Basil, Centre manager and Denis Obino, Intern Centre Assistant; as well as Professor Charles Nzioka, Professor C. F. Otieno and Dr Peter Waweru from the steering committee
The members present agreed that the launch shall take place at the University of Nairobi. The team was appraised on ongoing plans to secure the venue and invited guests to the launch.
The discussion the focused on the 2-day Conference to be held after the launch. This was well received, as it will be crucial to achieving the goal and vision of the Centre. The conference is expected to host 30 key researchers in the field of NCDs from all five (5) countries represented in ARUA CoE for NCDs. An advisory board meeting has since been scheduled for early 2023.
Members agreed to have a follow up meeting after 14 days to discuss their progress, on Wednesday 2nd November 2022.
